Ingredients
- Thatta Payir / Red Cow Peas - 1/2 cup
- Brinjal - 1 cup
- Shallots - 1/2 cup
- Tomato - 1
- kootu Podi - 1 1/2 tbsp
- Red Chilli powder - 2 tbsp
- Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tbsp
- Ginger Garlic Paste - 1/2 tbsp
- Tamarind - Small lemon size
- Castor oil - 1 tbsp
- Coriander Leaves
- Salt
- Grated Coconut -4 tbsp(Optional)
For Tempering
- Sesame Oil / Oil - 5 tbsp
- Mustard Seeds- 1/2 tbsp
- Chana Dal - 1/2 tbsp
- Urad Dal - 1/2 tbsp
- Curry Leaves
- Thalippu Onion Vadagam - 1/2 tbsp
Steps :
- Take a pressure cooker add washed Thatta Payir / Red Cow Peas - 1/2,add 1 tomato, turmeric Powder,1 Cup brinjal,add 1/2 cup of shallots,add 2 tbsp of red chilli powder,1 tbsp of castor oil and cook them together with 4 cups of water for 4- 5 whistles.
- Take 1/2 cup of tamarind puree,in this add 1 1/2 tbsp kootu podi,1/2 tbsp ginger garlic paste mix well.
- Now add the tamarind puree,and salt.
- Cook for another 10 minutes on medium flame,and turn off the Stove.
- Heat the pan add 5 tbsp of sesame oil,add 1/2 tbsp of mustard seeds once the mustard seeds start splattering add 1/2 tbsp of chana dal,1/2 of urad dal.
- Add Curry leaves,1/4 tbsp of hing and 1/2 tbsp of thalippu onion vadagam.
- Now add the tempered ingredients to the cooked cow peas.
- Finally garnish with some fresh coriander leaves and 4 tbsp of grated coconut(optional).
