Steps to Clean Banana Stem/ Valaithandu
Add the chopped banana stem to a bowl of Rice water, to prevent the banana stem from colorization. Take a stick,immerse it into the rice water and gently move it in a rotating motion. Once you pull out the stick outside, you will see some fiber sticking to the stick. Remove the fiber and repeat the process for 2-3 times.Cook Time : 20 Minutes

Ingredients :
- Banana Stem /Valaithandu - 1 cup (Finely Chopped)
- Moong Dal - 1/4 cup
- Shallots - 1/4 cup
- Garlic - 5 nos
- Red chilli powder - 2 tbsp
- Turmeric Powder - a pinch
- Coconut - 4 tbsp ( Grated)
- Few Curry Leaves (Chopped)
For Tempering :
- Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tbsp
- Chana dal - 1/2 tbsp
- Urad dal - 1/2 tbsp
Steps:
- Heat a pan add 1/2 cup of water , add 1/4 cup of moong dal , add 1 cup of chopped banana stem, then add 5 garlic finely chopped , allow them to boil for 10 minutes .
- Strain the water.
- Heat a pan add 4 tbsp of oil, add 1/4 tbsp of mustard seeds, add 1/2 urad dal, add 1/2 chana dal fry for 2 seconds.
- Add shallots , and few curry leaves fry for 5 minutes.
- Add 2 tbsp of red chilli powder, a pinch of turmeric powder, add the banana stem fry for 5 minutes.
- Finally add 4 tbsp of grated coconut and some fresh curry leaves.
